- Drip is the default for high-value row crops, vegetables and protected agriculture — higher water-use efficiency, easier fertigation, lower evaporation. Center pivot is stronger for large-area cereals, maize, alfalfa and forage where uniformity over hundreds of hectares matters more than millimetre-level precision. Terrain, water source, energy cost and labour all move the answer — the RFQ specifies the requirement and lets qualified suppliers propose the system.

What irrigation system is best for a commercial greenhouse?
Most commercial greenhouses use pressure-compensated drip irrigation with per-plant emitters or drippers on substrate slabs, zoned so each valve serves a uniform block. The system is sized on peak crop water demand, emitter uniformity, filtration to match water quality and hydraulic design across the longest run. Sprinkler or boom systems are used mainly in propagation and leafy-green production.
What does a commercial greenhouse irrigation system include?
A reservoir or water source, pump station, filtration matched to water quality, a fertigation and dosing unit with EC and pH control, main and sub-main lines, valves and zone control, drip lines and emitters, drainage collection and, in recirculating systems, disinfection and return lines. Irrigation control is usually integrated into the same computer as climate control.
What affects irrigation system price for a greenhouse project?
Irrigated area, number of zones, peak flow and pressure requirement, water quality and therefore filtration and treatment level, dosing channel count, whether drainage is recirculated, pipe material and pressure class, automation level and control integration, plus installation. Poor raw water is often the largest single cost driver because it dictates filtration, treatment and emitter selection.
