Reference answer

How much does a commercial greenhouse cost?

Direct answer

There is no single cost per square metre. Installed CAPEX is driven by structure class and gutter height, covering, ventilation and screening, heating and cooling duty, irrigation and fertigation, control systems, civil works and foundations, backup power, freight and Incoterm, local labour and installation, and taxes and duties. A credible budget comes from a specification, not from a benchmark. Any figure produced before the specification exists is indicative for screening only and should not be used as a procurement or financing basis.

What actually drives the answer

Two proposals can differ by a large margin purely because one includes civil works, water supply to the head and commissioning and the other does not.

Climate severity moves cost more than most buyers expect: cooling, heating and screening packages are the largest optional blocks.

OPEX — energy, water, labour, crop inputs, maintenance and replacement of covering — often changes project viability more than CAPEX does.

Freight, duties and installation labour are location-specific and must be priced locally rather than assumed from another market.

Variables that change the answer

  • Structure class and height
  • Climate control package
  • Covering type
  • Civil works scope
  • Freight, duty and Incoterm
  • Local installation cost

Evidence a supplier needs before quoting

  • Area and phasing
  • Climate data
  • Water and energy context
  • Required technology level
  • Delivery location

What this answer does not settle

  • Indicative planning ranges are for screening only and are not quotations.
  • No return, payback or yield is implied by any cost figure on this site.
