A turnkey greenhouse company designs, supplies and builds its own solution under one contract, which is efficient when the buyer already trusts that company's technology stack. An independent procurement platform works one step earlier: it helps define crop, climate, production target and technology level, converts that into one comparable RFQ, and lets several qualified turnkey or EPC companies quote the same scope. Most buyers use both — the process first, the contractor second.
Both routes end with a built greenhouse. They differ in who defines the specification. In a direct turnkey appointment the supplier's engineering team translates your objective into their own standard solution. In a competitive procurement process the buyer owns the specification and several qualified companies respond to it.

Where the two routes overlap
A competitive RFQ is not an alternative to turnkey delivery. Most projects that run a structured RFQ still award a turnkey contract at the end of it — the difference is that the award is made against a scope the buyer defined and against comparable alternatives.
Cost of skipping the definition stage
- Quotes covering different usable areas, so price per square metre is not comparable
- Climate capacity designed for a different set of external conditions than the site
- Irrigation, fertigation and water treatment partially excluded and priced later as variations
- Energy consumption assumptions not stated, so operating cost cannot be modelled

Appointing a turnkey company directly is reasonable when

- Speed matters more than price discovery and the budget is already approved
- Internal engineering capacity to review a tender is not available
Running a structured RFQ first is reasonable when
- The crop, growing system or climate strategy is not finally decided
- CAPEX is above roughly USD 250,000 and the decision must be defensible
- A lender, investor, board or public body requires competitive evidence
- The site has unusual climate, water or energy constraints
- You want to compare a high-tech and a mid-tech solution honestly before committing
