MAPA compliance notices
- To sell products as "orgânico" in Brazil, a producer must be certified by a MAPA-accredited certifier (by audit, or through a participatory guarantee system with an OPAC) or join a social-control organisation (OCS) registered with MAPA for direct sale without certification (MAPA, updated 30 Sep 2026).
- OCS producers may sell only directly to consumers and to government purchasing programmes. Supermarkets, shops, restaurants, industry and online sales need certified products (MAPA).
- Products certified only under foreign standards such as NOP, EU or JAS are not automatically recognised as organic in Brazil; they must be certified to the Brazilian standard (MAPA).
- Certified producers appear in MAPA's national register of organic producers (CNPO), usually updated on the 5th, 15th and 25th of each month. A listing confirms registration on that date, not the status of a particular lot (MAPA – CNPO, 21 Oct 2026).
- Under Portaria MAPA nº 52/2021, inputs produced in organic systems may be certified organic (Art. 24); inputs that meet its annexes but come from non-organic systems may receive a certifier's attestation of approval for organic use (Art. 25). Each grower's certifier decides whether a product may be used (Portaria 52/2021).
- SeedMatch does not certify, register or approve any product or producer and does not decide organic eligibility. This is not legal advice.
What happens to your application
- It is private. It is not a public listing, and your details are not shown to buyers.
- A specialist reviews it and may ask for your organic certificate, CNPO listing, MAPA registrations and product documents. Nothing is treated as confirmed until verified.
- Growers, packers and exporters go to our producer review; seed, input and equipment suppliers go to our supplier review.
- When a reviewed buyer request fits your verified capability, we approach you. Buyer identities stay confidential, and buyers and suppliers do not contact each other directly.
- Applying does not guarantee a buyer, an order, a price, organic recognition or export approval.
Frequently asked questions
Will my company be listed publicly?
No. Applications are private and are not published as listings. Buyers never see your details or contact you directly; any introduction happens only after review, through SeedMatch.
Can I apply if I sell through an OCS?
Yes, but MAPA allows producers in a social-control organisation (OCS) to sell organic products only directly to consumers and to government purchasing programmes. Buyer requests from retailers, industry or export usually need certification by a MAPA-accredited certifier or an OPAC.
Is a foreign organic certificate enough?
Not for selling as organic in Brazil. MAPA says products certified only under foreign standards such as NOP, EU or JAS must be certified to the Brazilian standard. A foreign certificate may still matter for an export buyer; declare it with its expiry date.
How do you check organic status?
Everything you enter is applicant-declared. Before any matching we check your certificate, its scope and expiry, and your listing in MAPA's national register of organic producers (CNPO), which MAPA usually updates on the 5th, 15th and 25th of each month.
My input is not certified organic. Can it still be used in organic farms?
Portaria MAPA nº 52/2021 allows inputs made in organic systems to be certified organic (Art. 24) and inputs that meet its annexes but come from non-organic systems to receive a certifier's attestation of approval for organic use (Art. 25). Each grower's certifier decides; SeedMatch does not.
Does applying guarantee a buyer or an order?
No. Applying does not guarantee a buyer, an order, a price, organic recognition or export approval. Each participant remains responsible for the requirements of its own role under applicable law.
