Import and phytosanitary requirements
- 1. Specification and shortlist
Confirm crop, hectares, region, altitude and the planting window — highland and northern programmes need different genetics. We return a private shortlist of independent breeding partners with indicative pricing as quoted by suppliers in EUR or USD.
- 2. Import authorisation and phytosanitary permit
Commercial seed consignments require prior authorisation from the Direction de la Réglementation et du Contrôle de Qualité des Intrants (MINADER) with a phytosanitary import permit, filed before shipment with species, variety, origin, quantity and treatment.
- 3. Variety status check
Where a variety has no Cameroonian trial record, a demonstration or trial consignment is usually faster than pushing a first commercial lot through national registration. We flag this at shortlist stage so it does not surface after the LC is opened.
- 4. Documentation pack
Phytosanitary certificate with the declared additional declarations, ISTA orange or blue certificate, certificate of origin, seed-treatment declaration, packing list and commercial invoice. Bilingual French/English documentation is accepted; pre-shipment inspection may apply depending on consignment value.
- 5. Payment and FX
XAF is pegged to the euro, so EUR Letters of Credit and documentary collections are the cheapest and most predictable route. Open the banking file in parallel with the permit file rather than sequentially.

FCL/LCL through the Port of Douala for tonne-scale grain, rice, cotton and forage, with Kribi as an alternative for deep-draft cargo. Air freight via Paris, Brussels or Istanbul for high-value highland vegetable seed. Douala also serves as the CEMAC transit hub for Chad and the Central African Republic.
- 7. Clearance and inland delivery
Customs and phytosanitary inspection at Douala with a licensed transitaire, then road delivery to Bafoussam, Bamenda, Yaoundé, Ngaoundéré or onward north to Garoua and Maroua. The northern road leg can add one to two weeks — plan the order-by date around it, not around the ocean transit.
