Reference answer

What warranty and after-sales terms should I require from equipment suppliers?

Direct answer

Require terms that are specific rather than generous-sounding: warranty duration per component group, what is covered and what is consumable, the start trigger (delivery, commissioning or handover), the response and repair commitment for your location, who pays for travel and freight of replacement parts, and how claims are documented. A long warranty with no service route to your site is worth less than a shorter one backed by regional engineers and parts stock.

What actually drives the answer

Component groups age differently: structure, covering, screens, pumps, controllers and sensors each deserve their own stated term.

Exclusions to read closely: film and net degradation, wear parts, damage from water quality, power quality, storm events and unauthorised modification.

Response time is only meaningful with a location: ask for the commitment measured from your site, not from the supplier's headquarters.

Remote support and controller diagnostics reduce downtime materially; confirm what remote access requires and who holds the credentials.

Ask for a recommended two-year spares list at quotation stage — pricing spares later, under pressure, is always worse.

Variables that change the answer

  • Component group and expected service life
  • Local service presence
  • Water and power quality at site
  • Operating intensity and climate severity

Evidence a supplier needs before quoting

  • Site location and nearest service base
  • Water and power quality data
  • Operating plan and expected running hours

What this answer does not settle

  • Warranty scope is contractual and varies by supplier; this lists what to require, not what any supplier offers.
