Orchard sprayers, frost fans, cooling and packhouse grading equipment
Orchard sprayers, covers, frost fans and platforms, plus cooling, grading and atmosphere packaging for premium fruit exports.
Requests go through SeedMatch Group. Our team reviews each request and coordinates supplier contact; buyers and suppliers are not put in direct contact. The buyer service is free, and projects are qualified from USD 250,000.

How should a buyer specify orchard and post-harvest export equipment?
Orchard and post-harvest export equipment is sized from the fruit, the peak harvest day and the destination's rules. Cooling targets decide the scope — USDA Handbook 66, for example, says sweet cherries should be below 5 °C within 4 hours of harvest — so quotes compare only against the same targets.

| Type | Maturity | Best for | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air-blast and tower orchard sprayers | Mature | Cherries, apples, pears, citrus, avocados. | Drift if poorly adjusted |
| Rain covers, hail nets and orchard netting | Mature | Sweet cherries, blueberries, table grapes, apples. | Alters light, humidity and fruit firmness |
| Frost-protection wind machines | Mature | Cherries, apples, citrus, grapes, avocados in frost-prone sites. | Ineffective without an inversion |
| Orchard platforms | Mature | High-density apples, pears, cherries. | Needs suitable orchard layout |
| Hydrocoolers and forced-air coolers | Mature | Cherries, berries, stone fruit, vegetables. | Water recirculation can spread contamination without sanitation |
| Optical sorting and grading lines | Established | Cherries, blueberries, citrus, avocados. | Calibration per cultivar and season |
| NIR dry-matter grading for avocados | Established | Hass and green-skin avocados for export. | Calibration per cultivar and season |
| Controlled atmosphere and modified-atmosphere packaging | Mature | Sea-freight cherries, blueberries and avocados. | Wrong gas levels injure fruit or flavour |
- Mature
Air-blast and tower orchard sprayers
Nozzle pressure (example): about 7 bar
- Mature
Rain covers, hail nets and orchard netting
Purpose: rain exclusion (films) or hail/bird protection (nets)
- Mature
Frost-protection wind machines
Area per machine (typical): about 8–10 acres (3–4 ha)
- Mature
Orchard platforms
Drive (example): diesel or 48 V electric
- Mature
Hydrocoolers and forced-air coolers
Cherry hydrocooler capacity (examples): about 1.5–15 tons/h
- Established
Optical sorting and grading lines
Blueberry throughput (vendor example): up to about 286 or 572 berries per second
- Established
NIR dry-matter grading for avocados
Measured attribute: internal dry matter (non-destructive)
- Mature
Controlled atmosphere and modified-atmosphere packaging
Sweet cherry atmosphere (reference): 3–10% O₂ with 10–15% CO₂; store at about −0.5 °C, 90–95% RH

How to specify this category
What to put in your request
- Fruit and varieties, orchard area and peak harvest tonnes per day
- Orchard scope: sprayers, rain or hail covers, frost-protection wind machines or platforms
- Cooling method and target: hydrocooling or forced air, pull-down time and pulp temperature
- Packhouse scope: grading criteria (size, colour, defects, internal quality), pack formats and cold-room pallets
- Destination markets, any required phytosanitary treatment, and power and water available on site
Questions to ask suppliers
- Which cooling capacity (kg per hour) and pull-down time is the quote based on, and for which peak day?
- How are graders calibrated to the buyer's size, colour and defect specification?
- What installation, commissioning, training and spare-parts support is available locally?
- Which local permits apply, for example noise rules for wind machines or water use for hydrocooling?
Strengths and limitations buyers weigh
| Option | Strengths | Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Hydrocooling | Named in USDA Handbook 66 as the most rapid cooling method for sweet cherries. | Needs water sanitation and monitoring; it is not the method the handbook names for blueberries. |
| Forced-air cooling | The method the handbook names for blueberries; the fruit stays dry. | Slower than hydrocooling for cherries, so tunnel capacity must match the peak harvest day. |
General trade-offs; a specific variety's traits come only from its supplier documentation.

For sprayers: orchard area, tree height and row spacing, canopy type, tractor power or self-propelled preference and drift-reduction requirements. For frost-protection wind machines: block size, whether frosts are radiation (inversion) frosts, power source and any local noise or permit rules.
Give every supplier the same fields: fruit type, peak tonnes per hour, number of grades and pack formats, size and defect criteria, and whether optical or internal-quality grading (for example NIR dry matter for avocados) is needed. Quotes against the same specification are comparable.
