Plant biostimulants
What is a plant biostimulants?
Plant biostimulants are products claimed to improve nutrient use, stress tolerance, quality or nutrient availability, independent of their nutrient content. In the EU they are a defined fertilising-product category with label claims; CE conformity does not make them organic.
Organic collection: Can support nutrient use and stress tolerance in organic systems. A CE mark under the EU fertilising-products regulation does not make a biostimulant organic; it must be separately allowed for organic use and accepted by the certifier.

Advantages
- Targeted support at crop stages
- Often easy to apply through fertigation
- Growing evidence base
Limitations and risks
- Effects are crop-, timing- and formulation-specific
- Evidence quality varies widely
- Not a substitute for nutrition
Maintenance
- Follow label storage and mixing
- Record applications and results
- Run local trials
Sustainability and compliance
Ask for trial evidence under comparable conditions before scaling.
In 2025 industry sought wider microbial categories in the EU — that is advocacy, not current law. Organic use needs separate evidence.
Questions to ask in your RFQ
- What independent trial evidence supports the claim?
- Is it registered or CE-marked for the destination?
- Is it allowed in organic production there?
