How to choose a commercial greenhouse supplier
Choose a commercial greenhouse supplier on nine criteria: experience with your crop, experience in your climate, projects at your scale, in-house engineering depth, installation and commissioning capability, agronomy support, local service and spare-parts presence, warranty terms per component group, and lifecycle cost rather than headline CAPEX. Reference projects in the same climate and crop are the strongest single indicator.
Supplier selection is a scoring exercise, not an impression. The criteria below can be applied to any bidder, and each one is verifiable by asking a direct question and requesting evidence.
The nine evaluation criteria
- Crop experience — reference projects growing your crop commercially, not a brochure mention
- Climate experience — projects in comparable radiation, temperature, humidity and load conditions
- Scale fit — projects at your hectarage; a supplier strong at 0.5 ha may not suit 10 ha, and vice versa
- Engineering depth — who performs structural calculation, and to which standard
- Installation and commissioning — own crews, subcontractors, supervision model and site safety record
- Agronomy support — is start-up support included, optional or absent
- Local service — presence, response time, language and spare-parts logistics
- Warranty — duration per component group and what voids it
- Lifecycle cost — energy behaviour, replacement intervals and maintenance demand
Questions that separate bidders quickly
- Which design standard did you apply for wind and snow, and what values did you use for this site?
- What is the usable growing area of the layout you have priced?
- Which parts of the installation are performed by your own crew?
- Who is responsible if the climate equipment and the fertigation controller do not integrate?
- What is your service response time to this country, and through whom?
- Which three references can I contact that grow this crop in a comparable climate?
How to score fairly
Keep technical compliance and commercial terms in separate columns. Clarify or exclude technically non-compliant bids before price is considered, otherwise the cheapest incomplete offer distorts the whole evaluation.
Questions buyers ask before selecting a greenhouse company
SeedMatch Group is not a greenhouse manufacturer, integrator, EPC contractor or installer, and has no exclusive relationship with any company named on this page. Several of the companies described here can be invited to quote through a structured RFQ. Capability descriptions summarise categories these companies present publicly and should be verified directly with each company for a specific project.
