Seed and planting-stock procurement for commercial planting programs in Guyana
SeedMatchGroup helps commercial growers, agribusinesses and program operators in Guyana prepare a seed or planting-stock specification and receive reviewed supplier offers. We do not sell or import seed ourselves, and we do not confirm that any variety may enter Guyana: plant imports are regulated under the Plant Protection Act 2011 and administered by the National Plant Protection Organization within NAREI, so buyers confirm permit and phytosanitary conditions there before ordering.
Commercial planting programs we can help scope
The Ministry of Agriculture has published a target of roughly 500 acres of onion cultivation across Regions Nine, Two, Five and Six (10 October 2026), following a Region Nine pilot. That is a public target, not a seed tender, and government planting-material support may already cover part of the need. We use it only as context for buyers planning their own commercial plantings.
- Vegetable seed for commercial field or protected production, such as onion, where the buyer defines variety type and area.
- Hybrid and open-pollinated vegetable seed lots for agribusiness or program operators with a defined planting plan.
- Planting stock and nursery material, handled as a separate scope from seed because import and health conditions differ.
- Supporting projects such as irrigation or seed processing, which go through their own project requests rather than a seed order.
What counts as an eligible request
- A named crop and variety type (or required traits), with intended use stated as propagation.
- A quantity derived from planted area and seeding rate, not from a regional acreage target.
- A destination region, delivery window tied to the sowing season, and an importer of record.
- A total project value of at least USD 250,000. Smaller purchases are better served by local distributors.
Import and phytosanitary requirements: confirm with the authority
Under the Plant Protection Act 2011 the definition of a plant includes seed and germplasm. NAREI's published import inspection form asks for an importer registration number, import permit number, common and scientific names, quantity, country of origin, whether the intended use is propagation, and whether the material is of transgenic origin. Requirements depend on species, origin and current pest status, so ask the NPPO for the conditions that apply to your exact lot before suppliers quote.
- Obtain or confirm importer registration and an import permit for the species and origin.
- Ask which phytosanitary certificate declarations, treatments or testing the permit requires.
- Arrange the import inspection at the port of entry named on the permit.
- Keep the germination and purity reports from the supplier with the shipment documents.
How the request moves
You describe the lot in the seed RFQ; a sourcing specialist reviews the specification and destination conditions you have confirmed; qualified suppliers respond with offers that state variety, lot test data, documents and delivery terms; you compare and decide. SeedMatchGroup reviews project requests from USD 250,000 in total value. Buyers use the service free of charge; qualified suppliers pay. Supplier identities stay confidential until a reviewed introduction.
