How do you calculate fertilizer requirement per hectare?
Fertilizer requirement is derived from crop nutrient removal at target yield, minus soil supply, divided by nutrient content of the chosen products and by application efficiency — giving kg of product per hectare and cost.
- Formula: product kg/ha = (nutrient demand kg/ha − soil supply) ÷ nutrient % ÷ efficiency.
- Urea is 46% N, MAP 11-52-0, MOP 60% K₂O — always convert oxide to element.
- Split applications lift N-use efficiency and reduce leaching losses.
- Soil and leaf analysis should override generic removal tables where available.
