Why energy usually dominates in controlled-climate systems

In climates requiring active heating or cooling for most of the year, energy commonly represents 30–50% of total OPEX. Structure insulation, glazing type, screening strategy and heating/cooling technology all shift this figure substantially, which is why energy modelling should happen before the structure is finalised, not after.

Labour cost patterns

Labour cost per unit area is relatively stable within a country but varies enormously between countries and with crop labour-intensity — hand-harvested fruiting crops require far more labour hours per hectare than mechanically managed leafy greens.
