Safflower Seed Rate & Yield Calculator
Safflower is a drought-tolerant oil crop grown in dryland systems across India, Turkey, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Argentina and the USA. Plan your seed rate, total seed volume, projected yield and oil output for high-oleic and linoleic markets.
Dryland safflower is typically established at 25–35 plants/m² with 40–50 cm row spacing. Rainfed yields range 1.2–2.5 t/ha; oil content is typically 30–45%.
How much safflower seed do you need per hectare?
Safflower seed rate is calculated as target plants per hectare divided by germination and field-establishment factors, multiplied by thousand seed weight. With 30 plants/m², 90% germination, 15% field loss and a TSW of 40 g, the calculator returns kg/ha, total seed volume, projected yield, gross revenue and crushable oil output.
- Formula: seed rate (kg/ha) = seeds/ha × TSW (40 g) ÷ 1,000,000.
- Typical density used here: 30 plants/m² on 45 cm rows.
- Reference yield 2 t/ha at about US$900/t.
- Oil content assumption 38% — oil output = yield × oil content.
