Solar Greenhouses & Solar-Powered Protected Agriculture
Flagship vendor-neutral hub for solar greenhouses: semi-transparent PV roofs, opaque roof PV strips, paired agrivoltaic arrays, battery-backed climate systems and turnkey off-grid greenhouses. One private RFQ. A dedicated sourcing specialist. Qualified global manufacturers and EPCs.
SeedMatchGroup specifies structures, PV, batteries and EPC inside the buyer's RFQ; we do not resell solar or greenhouse equipment directly.
Solar-greenhouse configurations
Choose the configuration that matches your crop's light requirement, your grid reality and your energy tariff.
Bifacial or thin-film cells integrated in the roof — suited to leafy greens, herbs and shade-tolerant crops.
Opaque PV on the north side of an east–west greenhouse, high generation with minimal PAR loss.
Ground-mount or canopy PV outside the greenhouse footprint — the default for tomato, pepper and cucumber.
Turnkey off-grid tunnels and nurseries with solar + battery + backup generator.
Net-metered or self-consumption designs sized to peak climate load, not just annual kWh.
Solar pumping and fertigation pumps on the same DC/AC bus as the greenhouse.
Structure, climate & storage
Glass Venlo, polyhouse and hybrid structures compatible with roof-integrated PV.
Cooling, heating, humidity and CO₂ specified with the solar sizing.
Lithium iron phosphate storage sized to critical climate load and outage duration.

FAQ
- What is a solar greenhouse?
- A solar greenhouse combines protected-agriculture structure with on-site photovoltaic generation — either semi-transparent PV panels integrated in the roof, opaque PV on part of the roof/walls, or a paired ground-mount array feeding the greenhouse. The goal is to power climate control, fertigation, LED supplemental lighting and pumps with the same site's solar production, ideally with a battery buffer so critical loads survive a grid outage. Correctly designed, solar greenhouses reduce OPEX by 20–60% depending on the climate, crop and energy tariff.
- Semi-transparent PV or opaque roof PV?
- Semi-transparent PV (bifacial cells with gaps, or thin-film) preserves 60–80% of PAR to the crop and suits leafy greens, herbs and shade-tolerant crops. Opaque PV strips on the north side of an east–west greenhouse maximise generation with almost no yield penalty for light-tolerant crops. High-light crops like tomato, pepper and cucumber usually prefer a paired agrivoltaic array outside the greenhouse footprint. The RFQ Builder captures crop light requirement, structure orientation and target kWp so proposals are comparable.
- Do solar greenhouses need a battery?
- For grid-tied greenhouses in stable networks, no — the grid is the battery. For off-grid tunnels, remote nurseries, or any site where a power outage kills climate control (heating winter nights, fogging summer days), a battery pack sized for the critical-load runtime is essential. Modern lithium systems (LFP) with 8–15 years design life are the default; ask for round-trip efficiency, warranty and end-of-life recycling in the RFQ.
- Are solar greenhouses eligible for green financing?
- Yes. Green trade finance and project finance products from development banks, ECAs and specialist lenders explicitly target protected-agriculture-plus-solar projects. Bankability improves with a proper energy model (kWh/kWp by month), a credible off-take on the produce, and vendor-neutral EPC selection — which is exactly what our RFQ Builder produces.
- Does SeedMatchGroup sell solar or greenhouse structures?
- No. SeedMatchGroup is a human-led global sourcing platform supported by proprietary technology. Structures, PV, batteries, inverters, climate systems and EPC are specified inside the buyer's RFQ and opened to qualified global manufacturers and integrators. Vendor-neutral, buyer-first.
