Leafy Greens Fertilizer Procurement
For commercial leafy greens, define the crop and growing system before comparing fertilizer offers. Separate each block or crop cycle, use approved product rates and verify the documented grade; area alone does not describe an annual hydroponic nutrition budget.

Evidence to prepare before requesting offers
Crop and production blocks
Name the actual leafy crop rather than treating lettuce, spinach and herbs as one recipe. State block area, planned cycles, planting windows and the programme's applicable period. Avoid counting overlapping blocks or using a per-cycle rate as an annual rate.
Soil versus nutrient solution
Identify soil production, NFT, DWC or another system. Record the water source and whether solution is recirculated. For hydroponic projects, obtain the approved product list and monitoring plan from your agronomist; this planner does not calculate a nutrient-solution concentration.
Traceability and storage
Request lot identification, analysis, SDS, pack size and storage conditions for each product. Link shipment lots to the production blocks they serve and specify the evidence required at receipt. Fertilizer documentation does not certify the harvested crop.
Compare the right procurement scope
- Cycle totals versus daily dosing
- A product rate in kg/ha/cycle can be multiplied by hectares and cycles. A daily concentration or injector setting cannot be entered as that rate; use the separate fertigation tool with an approved dosing basis.
- Programme price versus one product
- Compare equivalent grades and quantities in one currency and on one delivery basis. A single bag price does not represent the complete programme, testing, treatment or operating costs.
