How to Evaluate Warranty and After-Sales Support for Agricultural Equipment
A greenhouse, irrigation system or seed-processing line is a 10–20 year asset. The warranty and after-sales package is often worth more than the headline price. This guide explains what to compare and what to insist on in the contract.
Is a longer warranty always better?
No. A 10-year warranty with no local service network is often weaker than a 3-year warranty with regional stock and a 48-hour response guarantee. Sometimes. A performance bond of 5–10% of contract value is common for large processing and irrigation projects.

Open the RFQ BuilderWhat a professional warranty covers
Split warranty into three layers and require each to be explicit in writing:
- Structural / mechanical warranty (typically 5–15 years on greenhouse structure, 2–5 years on machinery).
- Component warranty (motors, controllers, pumps — usually 1–3 years, sometimes pass-through from OEM).
- Performance warranty (throughput, uniformity, energy consumption) — only offered by serious suppliers, and the most valuable of the three.
After-sales response and spare parts
Ask three specific questions: guaranteed response time for critical breakdowns, spare-parts stocking policy in the buyer's region, and whether remote diagnostics are included. A 48-hour response guarantee with regional spares is worth more than a 10-year warranty served from another continent.
Training and commissioning
Confirm operator training days, language of training, and whether a re-training visit at 6 months is included. Poor training is the leading cause of warranty disputes.
Contract language
Warranty clauses should specify: start date (delivery vs. commissioning), exclusions, dispute resolution jurisdiction, and force-majeure treatment.
