Fertilizer ROI Calculator

Weigh a fertilizer programme's cost against the yield response you expect — using your own cost, yield, response and price figures. See the net return per hectare, the ROI and the breakeven response before you commit. Supplier-neutral: we do not publish fertilizer prices or yield claims.

Estimate only — not a quotation. Outputs are indicative planning ranges based on the values you enter and typical commercial benchmarks. Real pricing, specifications and lead times vary by country, site conditions and supplier, and are confirmed only in written offers collected through a private RFQ.

Programme inputs

Full delivered cost: product, freight, blending and application.

Your yield without this programme, from your own records.

From your agronomist or local trial data — not a supplier claim.

The price you realistically expect to receive, net of handling.

How the numbers are built

  1. Extra yield per hectare = baseline yield × expected response.
  2. Extra revenue per hectare = extra yield × your expected crop price.
  3. Net return per hectare = extra revenue − programme cost. ROI = net return ÷ programme cost.
  4. Breakeven response = programme cost ÷ (baseline yield × crop price). Below this response, the programme loses money at your price.

Worked example with the default illustrative inputs: 50 ha at US$600/ha costs US$30,000. An 8% response on a 60 t/ha baseline adds 4.8 t/ha; at US$250/t that is US$1,200/ha of extra revenue — a net US$600/ha and a 100% return on programme cost. The breakeven response is 4%. Replace every input with your own figures.

Frequently asked questions

From you. This tool does not estimate yields, responses or prices — you enter your own baseline yield, the response your agronomist or trial data supports, and the price you actually expect to receive. Every output is only as reliable as those inputs.

The full delivered cost of the fertilizer programme per hectare: product, blending, freight to farm, application and any fertigation equipment runtime attributable to the programme. Understating cost flatters the ROI, so include everything.

The yield increase at which the extra revenue exactly covers the programme cost. If your expected response is below the breakeven figure, the programme loses money at the price you entered.

No. This is a planning screen, not an agronomic or financial recommendation. Soil and tissue analysis, local trial data and an agronomist's recommendation come first; the calculator only organises the economics of a programme you are already considering.

No. We are supplier-neutral. We help commercial buyers specify volumes, grades, packaging and delivery windows, then manage one private RFQ to qualified producers, blenders and traders. Qualified programmes start at a total value of USD 250,000.

Turning this estimate into a request? The fertilizers and plant nutrition catalog lists what changes a quote — grade, packaging, volume and destination registration — and opens a pre-filled request that our team reviews before any supplier is contacted.

Understanding the values

What each choice in this calculator means, and how the options differ in practice.

Water analysis first
Every dosing calculation starts from source-water quality. Without a laboratory test the recipe is a guess.
Crop stage
Nutrient demand rises from establishment to harvest. Run the calculation per growth stage, not once per season.

What can change the result?

This is a preliminary planning estimate based on the values you entered. The variables below usually move the outcome most, and should be confirmed with an agronomist, engineer and supplier offers before final design.

  • Crop and cultivar — water, climate and support requirements differ per crop
  • Growing system (soil, substrate, hydroponic) and plant density
  • Water quality and treatment needs (EC, pH, iron, hardness, pathogens)
  • Fertigation strategy, dosing accuracy and drain recirculation

Questions this calculator answers

Typical buyer and investor searches this tool is built for, including the markets where we run the most commercial projects.

Method and decision path

How to use this result in a commercial project

Use the result to test scope and compare scenarios. It is not a design, agronomic prescription, financing offer or supplier quotation.

  1. 1. Enter site evidence

Replace defaults with measured area, climate, water, energy, crop and commercial assumptions.

  2. 2. Test scenarios

Change one assumption at a time and record the effect on capacity, cost, demand or return.

  3. 3. Validate the duty

Ask the relevant agronomist, engineer or financial adviser to check the inputs and constraints.

  4. 4. Prepare a private RFQ

Carry the confirmed scope into a human-reviewed brief so written offers can be compared on the same basis.

Final specifications, performance, prices, supplier participation and timing depend on the site and written supplier responses; none is guaranteed by this calculator.

Plan the project around the numbers

A calculator output is a starting point. Pair it with the planning guides below to align timeline, irrigation, budget and risk before you launch an RFQ.

A model output only holds if the scope, contract route and delivery terms match the assumptions. These reference answers cover the commercial decisions that move the figure.

Calculator outputs are indicative. When your numbers stabilise, a supplier-neutral RFQ turns those estimates into a consistent brief for comparing the written offers that participating suppliers provide.

What to submit — Cost model & budget validation

The facts a complete, supplier-neutral request on this topic includes. Use it as a checklist before submitting.

  • The scale you modelled (m², ha, t/h or units) and the CAPEX band it produced
  • Which cost lines are in scope for the supplier and which you handle locally
  • Specification level: basic, mid-tech or high-tech / fully automated
  • Currency, budget approval status and funding source
  • Timeline: decision date, delivery window and commissioning target
  • Country of installation, import duties and local content requirements
  • Operating assumptions you need validated (yield, energy, labour)
