How is a greenhouse heating system sized?
A greenhouse heating system is sized from a heat-loss calculation: the covered area and envelope, the U-value of the cladding and screens, the coldest design temperature and wind exposure at the site, and the minimum night temperature the crop requires. That produces a peak heat demand in kW and an annual energy demand, which then determine the emission system — pipe rail, air heaters or a combination — the heat source, the buffer capacity and the fuel or electricity cost the project must carry each year.
