Why local trials matter
Local trial data captures the interaction of variety × environment × management that breeder data alone never can. It is also the single most credible piece of evidence when financing a large seasonal planting.
A practical local-trial protocol
Plant 2–4 candidate varieties in replicated strips alongside your current commercial variety. Manage all strips identically. Score yield, marketable quality and disease incidence at harvest. Repeat for one season before scaling.
