Hydroponic Fit-Out Cost Calculator.
Estimate the indicative CAPEX of the internal growing package — gutters or channels, substrate, irrigation, drain, crop support and options — per m² and for the whole project, before you request quotes.
How much does a commercial hydroponic fit-out cost?
Indicatively USD 8–18/m² for substrate on ground, USD 20–45/m² for raised gutters, USD 35–70/m² for NFT, USD 40–85/m² for deep water culture and USD 90–200+/m² for mobile gutter lines, excluding the greenhouse structure, head station and lighting.
- Fit-out is the internal growing package, not the greenhouse structure.
- Recirculation adds drain capture and disinfection to the scope.
- Automation is justified by labour cost per unit produced, not by prestige.
Estimate only — not a quotation. Outputs are indicative planning ranges based on the values you enter and typical commercial benchmarks. Real pricing, specifications and lead times vary by country, site conditions and supplier, and are confirmed only in written offers collected through a private RFQ.
Project inputs
Net growing area, not total greenhouse footprint.
Planning values only. Excludes greenhouse structure, climate installation, fertigation head station, water pre-treatment, land and post-harvest. Final pricing requires supplier and engineering review.

Method and assumptions
Each growing system carries a published per-m² band for the growing hardware, substrate and internal irrigation and drain lines. Optional packages add their own per-m² allowance. The output is a band rather than a single number because installation labour, import duty and specification level vary by market.
Limitations: the tool does not model the greenhouse structure, climate systems, the fertigation head station, water pre-treatment, civil works or post-harvest. Price the head station separately.
Worked example
A 1 ha (10,000 m²) raised gutter tomato project with crop support and recirculation lands roughly in the USD 27–65/m² band, or about USD 270,000–650,000 for the fit-out package — with the greenhouse, head station and post-harvest still to be added.

What can change the result?
This is a preliminary planning estimate based on the values you entered. The variables below usually move the outcome most, and should be confirmed with an agronomist, engineer and supplier offers before final design.
- Crop and cultivar — water, climate and support requirements differ per crop
- Growing system (soil, substrate, hydroponic) and plant density
- Water quality and treatment needs (EC, pH, iron, hardness, pathogens)
- Automation, sensors and climate-computer control level
- Project country: duties, freight, installation cost and permitting

Procurement answers behind these numbers
A model output only holds if the scope, contract route and delivery terms match the assumptions. These reference answers cover the commercial decisions that move the figure.

Move hydroponic fit-out cost calculator. into a structured RFQ
Editorial · not a sales pitchCalculator outputs are indicative. When your numbers stabilise, a supplier-neutral RFQ turns those estimates into comparable offers from verified providers.
The facts a complete, supplier-neutral request on this topic includes. Use it as a checklist before submitting.
- Covered area (m² or ha), bay/gutter layout preference and target gutter height
- Site location, altitude and design loads (wind, snow, seismic) if known
- Crop and production system (soil, substrate, hydroponic, nursery)
- Covering choice: polyethylene film, polycarbonate or glass — and expected lifetime
- Climate scope: ventilation, screens, heating, cooling/pad-fan, CO₂, controls
- Irrigation/fertigation scope and water source quality
- Target commissioning date, phasing and budget band (USD $250K+)
- Incoterms, destination port/site and who handles civil works and erection
- Site plan or coordinates with plot dimensions
- Soil/water analysis where available
- Any existing concept drawing, BOQ or previous supplier offer
