Quick answer · Summary for buyers and AI assistants

How much loan does an agricultural project need, and what will the interest cost?

Loan needed = capital cost + contingency + working capital − equity. Interest is charged at a fixed rate on the full loan: interest only during any grace period, then level payments over the rest of the term.

  • Formula: payment = loan × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n) after the grace period.
  • SeedMatch's managed project service starts at a total project value of USD 250,000.
  • More equity lowers both the loan and the total interest.
  • Each financing provider sets its own equity share, rate, fees and security.

Estimate only — not a quotation. Outputs are indicative planning ranges based on the values you enter and typical commercial benchmarks. Real pricing, specifications and lead times vary by country, site conditions and supplier, and are confirmed only in written offers collected through a private RFQ.

Illustrative only — not an offer, quote, recommendation or eligibility decision. SeedMatchGroup is not a lender, bank or investment advisor and does not offer, arrange, approve or guarantee financing or recommend any specific financier; it has no verified financing partnership. Figures, tenors, rates, LTV, grant and eligibility statements are general, unverified planning ranges, not checked against a dated primary source for any specific country, buyer or project, and may be out of date. Programmes described are general programmes, not financing actually available to you. Confirm current terms directly with the provider and seek local legal and financial advice. With separate, optional consent only, a sourcing specialist may share a project-readiness summary with an independent provider you choose.

Exact assumptions in this calculation

  • Project cost: capital cost + 5% contingency on capital cost + working capital. Taxes, duties and land are included only if you put them in these figures.
  • Loan: project cost − equity, drawn in full at the start. Equity carries no interest or return in this model.
  • Interest: fixed 9% a year, not compounded during the grace period. Interest only for 6 months, then 78 level monthly payments that repay the loan by the end of the 7-year term.
  • Fees: one arrangement fee of 1% of the loan. Legal, valuation, insurance, commitment and guarantee fees are not included.
  • USD 250,000 check: compares total project cost (not the loan) with SeedMatch's managed-service minimum. It is not a lender requirement and says nothing about approval.
  • Not included: currency changes, variable rates, staged drawdown, early repayment and any grant or subsidy.

Sources and basis

No outside source is cited because the calculation is standard loan arithmetic on your own figures: the level-payment formula above, the USD 250,000 minimum of SeedMatch's managed project service, and the rate, term and fee you enter. Each financing provider's own term sheet replaces these numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Total project cost — capital cost plus contingency plus working capital — minus the equity you put in. If your equity covers the whole cost, no loan is needed.

At a fixed annual rate on the full loan from drawdown. During the grace period you pay interest only; after it, level payments of principal and interest repay the loan by the end of the term: payment = loan × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n), where r is the rate per payment period and n the number of payments.

SeedMatchGroup's managed project service starts at a total project value of USD 250,000. The check uses total project cost, not the loan amount, and shows how far a smaller project is from that threshold.

More equity lowers the loan and the total interest. Each financing provider sets its own minimum equity share, rate, fees and security, so confirm those in writing before relying on the result.

Understanding the values

What each choice in this calculator means, and how the options differ in practice.

Area and layout
Hectares alone are not a specification. Block dimensions, corridors and packhouse share decide how much of the site actually produces.
Scenario testing
Change one assumption at a time and record the effect. The value of the tool is comparing scenarios, not the single first number.

What can change the result?

This is a preliminary planning estimate based on the values you entered. The variables below usually move the outcome most, and should be confirmed with an agronomist, engineer and supplier offers before final design.

  • Growing area and layout — hectares alone are not a greenhouse specification
  • Greenhouse type and technology level (tunnel, naturally ventilated, high-tech)
  • Structure specification, wind and snow loads, and site civil works
  • Energy and utility tariffs, plus tariff escalation over time
  • Financing terms, contingency and currency movement

Method and decision path

How to use this result in a commercial project

Use the result to test scope and compare scenarios. It is not a design, agronomic prescription, financing offer or supplier quotation.

  1. 1. Enter site evidence

Replace defaults with measured area, climate, water, energy, crop and commercial assumptions.

  2. 2. Test scenarios

Change one assumption at a time and record the effect on capacity, cost, demand or return.

  3. 3. Validate the duty

Ask the relevant agronomist, engineer or financial adviser to check the inputs and constraints.

  4. 4. Prepare a private RFQ

Carry the confirmed scope into a human-reviewed brief so written offers can be compared on the same basis.

Final specifications, performance, prices, supplier participation and timing depend on the site and written supplier responses; none is guaranteed by this calculator.

Plan the project around the numbers

A calculator output is a starting point. Pair it with the planning guides below to align timeline, irrigation, budget and risk before you launch an RFQ.

A model output only holds if the scope, contract route and delivery terms match the assumptions. These reference answers cover the commercial decisions that move the figure.
