Agricultural Energy & Backup Systems

Vendor-neutral hub for agricultural energy: diesel and gas generators, hybrid solar-diesel, battery storage, solar backup, ATS, UPS and smart energy management — engineered for greenhouses, irrigation, solar irrigation, hydroponics, vertical farming, water pumps, reservoirs, climate control and agricultural automation.

SeedMatchGroup specifies generators, batteries, ATS, UPS and EMS inside the buyer's RFQ; we do not resell energy equipment directly. All commercial terms are handled privately.

Direct answer

How is a generator sized for a commercial greenhouse or irrigation system?

Sizing starts with the largest single motor start (typically a fogging pump, chiller compressor or irrigation booster) and the continuous running load. Motor starting current is 4–7× nameplate for direct-on-line motors and 1.5–2× for VFD-driven motors, so the genset kVA must cover the worst-case inrush without voltage collapse. Add 20–30% headroom for future expansion, correct for altitude (derate ~1% per 100 m above 1,000 m) and ambient temperature (derate ~2% per °C above 40 °C). For a 1 ha high-tech greenhouse the emergency backup genset is usually 50–150 kVA; for a full-project (climate + fertigation + LEDs) prime power is often 250–500 kVA. Use our Generator Sizing Calculator for a first pass and open the RFQ for engineered quotes.

What to submit — Solar & agricultural energy

The facts a complete, supplier-neutral request on this topic includes. Use it as a checklist before submitting.

  • Daily and peak load (kWh/day, kW) with the equipment driving it
  • Grid status: none, unreliable, or grid-tied with export rules
  • Site coordinates and available mounting area (ground or roof)
  • Autonomy required and acceptable outage tolerance
  • Existing generators, fuel cost and current tariff
  • Whether storage, hybrid controllers or pump inverters are in scope
Helpful attachments
  • Twelve months of electricity bills or generator fuel logs
  • Equipment list with rated power

What to do next

Most organizations move through these four steps in order. Each one can be started independently, and nothing is shared with suppliers until you approve the scope.

How this guidance is produced

Supplier-neutral

We do not manufacture equipment and do not represent a fixed vendor list. Guidance reflects the project, not a catalogue.

Human-led review

Content is prepared and reviewed by sourcing specialists working on live commercial agriculture projects, supported by proprietary technology.

International scope

Practice drawn from greenhouse, CEA, irrigation, nursery, packing-house and processing projects across multiple climates and regulatory environments.
