How do you size heating, cooling and ventilation for a greenhouse?
Climate load is derived from covered area, cover U-value, the design temperature difference and target air exchanges: heating load = U × area × ΔT, while cooling/ventilation is sized from required air changes per hour or pad-and-fan airflow.
- Heating formula: kW = U-value × surface area × ΔT ÷ 1,000.
- Typical U-values: single poly ≈ 6.0, double poly ≈ 4.0, glass + screen ≈ 2.8 W/m²K.
